Effect of cannabis on the course of psychotic disorders

Dr. Abdel-Baki, along with colleagues from the CRCHUM and the Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Montréal, conducted an initial study of 212 men and women aged 18 to 30 who suffered from psychotic disorders and a drug addiction problem, including cannabis. The results show that symptoms worsen and social functioning deteriorates in cannabis users after the first year of follow-up if they persist in use; If they no longer use, their symptoms disappear and their social functioning improves.

After a first psychosis in 2013, Mr. Gingras received care at the CHUM Clinic for Young Adults with Psychosis (JAP).

Where do you start to get back on your feet when you're young and living in a situation of homelessness, with mental health and addiction issues? The eqiip SOL (Équipe d'Intervention Intensive de Proximité), at Notre-Dame Hospital in Montreal, has created with some success a unique intervention model to move forward on all fronts with these young adults to whom life has given nothing (Désautels le dimanche, Radio-Canada; report by Akli Aït-Abdallah with the participation of Dr. Amal Abdel-Baki and Nicolas Girard).
